Don’t Use a Friend’s Facebook Wall to Send a Private Message

by Kimberly Yow on April 27, 2009

If you want to send a Facebook Friend a private message, go to their profile and click “Send (friend’s name) a Message“.  The message will then be sent to your friend’s Facebook inbox.

Note:  Messages that you post on your friend’s Facebook wall are NOT typically private.  They show up in mutual friend’s news feeds based on the privacy settings that you (and your friend) have in place.

I hope this clarification helps you keep Facebook messages private when you intend for them to be so.
